TUNICA CO., MS (WMC) - A caregiver is accused of stealing from the elderly in two states. The information comes just one day after Brenda Lee Pettis was arrested in Memphis.

Pettis is also facing charges in Tunica County, Mississippi where she is also accused of stealing from a client.

A grandson of one of Pettis' alleged victims agreed to speak about the thefts on the condition that he remain anonymous.

"We didn't know until my grandmother got home, started looking around, and things were missing," he said.

Pettis is accused of swiping about $7,000 worth of jewelry from her Memphis client before selling it to a Getwell Road pawn shop.

In Tunica County, investigators say she stole more than $100,000 in jewelry, cash, and forged checks.

The common denominator is that Pettis worked for Senior Care Management Solutions at the time the thefts were reported.

"You trust they do background checks and whatnot and we find out this lady has a criminal history," said the grandson.

Senior Care Management Solutions issued a statement Tuesday night:

"Nothing is more important to us than the safety and security of our clients. We are currently working with the Memphis Police Department as they investigate the incident further."

The company did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment on the Tunica matter. Attempts to contact Pettis were not successful.
