Suspect in officer shooting charged with attempted murder

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Police charged 29-year-old Daniel Jefferson in Thursday's shooting that injured Organized Crime Unit officer Robert Armour.

Jefferson is charged with attempted first-degree murder, employment of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and convicted felon in possession of a handgun.

There were multiple crime scenes in the Whitehaven neighborhood as a result of the shooting. 

Armour was shot during a drug or gang investigation in the 900 block of Hester Road.

After a chase, police eventually captured Jefferson just miles away at a home in the 1600 block of Kirkwood Road.

WMC Action News 5 uncovered Jefferson's long rap sheet with law enforcement. This is not his first run-in with the law; he has been in trouble with police for 10 years.

In 2012, Jefferson was charged with aggravated assault of a man.

In 2008, he was charged with a criminal attempted second-degree murder for a fight that took place in font of his mom's house. According to the affidavit, he shot a man twice in the back during the fight.

Jefferson was also charged with assault with bodily harm in 2007.

At the age of 19, in 2005, he received a charge of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
