Police officers are investigating a double murder in Corinth, Mississippi.

According to the Alcorn County coroner, two people are dead after they were shot in an apartment complex Saturday night.

Neighbors are visibly upset after the victims were killed just feet away from their living rooms. They say what they thought was the sound of fireworks exploding was actually nearly 50 gun shots.

One neighbor's home was right in the middle of the scene. The walls of her home were riddled with bullet holes and her car had 19 holes in the wheels, hood, and windshield.

"Everything I own has holes in it," said Lacquice McIntyre. "Inside of the car there is gunshot holes all through the seats."

McIntyre moved into the apartment four weeks ago, but told her landlord she's moving out the day after the incident.

She says she and her children were sitting inside the living room when bullets came through the walls.

"My kids could have died last night," said McIntyre. "There are bullet holes inches from where we were sitting."

McIntyre tried to get herself and her children to safety, but says she felt trapped in her own home as bullets continued to fly through the walls.

"I didn't feel there was any safe place to go because they were also shooting behind my house," McIntyre recalled. "It was coming through my kid's room and then the side. There was no safe place to go whatsoever."

Police have not released the names of the victims.

Meanwhile, McIntyre says her family is lucky to be alive, and has a message for the shooters.

"You can't take matters into your own hands," said McIntyre. "You need to be aware of your surroundings. There are kids out here every day. Have a heart."
