MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Three people are in custody, after Memphis police responded to an armed robbery at the Exxon on Sycamore View and Macon roads.

The initial armed robbery call at the gas station happened around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Police say a man and a woman took beer out of the cooler at the gas station while the third suspect threatened the clerk with a knife.

The three people left with four cases of beer worth $85. They left the scene in a maroon 1998 Chevy Silverado, nearly hitting a Shelby County squad car.

The deputy followed the vehicle to I-40 and Summer Avenue where the driver stopped the vehicle. The driver was the person who threatened the clerk with a knife.

The other two suspects were taken into custody. The knife was found on the ground by the vehicle, according to police.

No charges have been filed.
