Man indicted in shooting death of transgender woman

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A man was indicted on first-degree murder charges in the September 2014 shooting death of his friend.

According to Shelby County District Attorney General Amy Weirich's office, 21-year-old Marshall Pegues is charged with shooting and killing Alejandro "Alejandra" Leos, a transgender woman, as she left his home in the 1600 block of Berkshire Avenue.

Leos was shot several times and officers pronounced her dead on the scene.

The case is being handled by the DA's Intimate Partner/Domestic Violence Prosecution Unit. The unit will provide services and assistance to Leos' family.

Pegues is being held without bond.
