OSCEOLA, AR (WMC) -

The search for a deckhand who fell overboard near Osceola, Arkansas is over.

U.S. Coast Guard suspended the search Wednesday afternoon, more than 36 hours after the man is believed to have fallen into the Mississippi River.

He was working on a tow boat when he fell overboard near mile marker 782.

"We offer our sincere condolences to the family and friends,” said Capt. Timothy Wendt, commanding officer, Coast Guard Sector Lower Mississippi River. "It's always difficult to end an active search for individuals in the water, but the Coast Guard is suspending its search pending further developments."
