MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -
It's been almost four months since the euphoria of winning a college football bowl game swept over University of Memphis, but the tidal wave of pride from capturing the inaugural Miami Beach Bowl still needed an exclamation point, according to the Highland Hundred.
That's why the school's football booster group went out and did something special for the head coach who brought winning back to the program.
How about a surprise pair of blue cowboy boots with the Miami Beach Bowl logo on them?
Head coach Justin Fuente calls himself a country boy from Oklahoma, and this is just the gift they felt he'd like coming off the school's first 10 win season since 1938, leading to a thrilling 55-48 overtime win against BYU in South Florida.
Fuente said, "I was, some people would say, for the first time ever at a loss for words. But I just thought it was an incredibly kind gesture, they're really cool."
The Tigers close out their spring practice Friday with the annual Blue Gray scrimmage at Liberty Bowl.
