MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

The 7-year-old girl shot in her front yard on Friday evening died from her injuries.

Memphis Police Department confirms that 7-year-old Kristen Williams died shortly after being taken to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital.

The shooting happened in the 2600 block of Durby Circle, near Labelle Street where investigators say Kristen was playing in the front yard with several other children.

A red or maroon Chevrolet SUV drove up and the passenger began firing shots.

Larry Baker, who lives across the street, saw the shooting happen from his porch.

"She said, 'They shot my baby,'" recalled Baker. "That's when I ran across the street."

Baker says he saw a white SUV pull into the driveway and the victim and other children got out of the car. Then, the maroon pickup truck drove by the house.

"It slowed down," Baker said. "Then, I heard the gunshots go off."

Police say it isn't clear who was being targeted at the home, but added that a man was shot in the same house Thursday night. He is recovering, but was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Police do not know who was responsible for either shooting, but are still investigating both situations.
