MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - The family of a teenager killed during a drive-by shooting Friday morning is recovering after the tragic incident.

Cateria Stokes, 15, was sleeping when bullets riddled her family's home.

"They shot up the whole house," said her uncle, Andrew Stokes.

WMC Action News 5 personally counted more than a dozen bullets holes in the house on Cottonwood.  Neighbors said they heard an excess of 20 shots.

"My brother was in the back bedroom on the east side, and he was shot," said Stokes.

Stokes, who rents the home, was not inside at the time.  He said his 15-year-old niece, Cateria, died on the scene.

"She was nice, she was sweet, she was kind," said Stokes.  "Never in any trouble or nothing."

Memphis police officers said the drive-by appeared to be gang-related.  However, Stokes told us he was unaware of any such activity within the family.

"Nobody has any idea who might have done it," said Stokes.  "Nobody knows."

"I didn't think anything like this would have been going on," said property manager Cassandra Bell-Warren.

She saw the house she rents on the news and later showed up to assess the damage.

"I feel sorry for the family that this happened," said Bell-Warren.  "It's just a sad situation."

Cateria's brother also died in a shooting at a young age.  Andrew Stokes said it almost too much for the family to bear.

"I mean, shoot, we're suffering here," said Stokes.

Police have yet to release any suspect information.
