MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

As family and friends of 7-year-old Kirsten Williams gathered Sunday night, they described her as a loving girl with a bright future. That future was cut short Friday when she was killed in a drive-by shooting just down the block from her home on Durby Circle.

"It hurt me to see my baby laying (sic) on that ground," said Kirsten's stepfather, Anthony Harris. "And I had to lay with her and talk with her the whole time. It hurt me."

As they came together, those who knew and loved Williams shared their memories and their grief during a candlelight vigil.

"She said, 'Grandmother, would you take us to the park?' and it just touched my heart," said Williams' grandmother, Teresa Davis. "I know I did what she asked. I just didn't know that was our last day together."

Davis says she's filled with pain, knowing the young girl's life was taken too soon.

Investigators are still trying to find those responsible. The family hopes an arrest will help heal their pain.

"This has been like a nightmare to me," Davis added. "I may have slept three hours since this happened. But, I just know God is with me."
