MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A student who brought a handgun onto the LeMoyne-Owen College campus turned himself in on Tuesday.

A security guard said he was making his rounds around the campus on Saturday when he saw a handgun magazine fall out of a student's pocket.

Police say the guard confronted the student, Cortney House. That's when House tried to run, and the guard tackled him.

In the scuffle, House pulled a large handgun from his pants. The security guard says he knocked the gun away, and House started to run.

"I don't feel like this is a place where you'll need a weapon," student Lucky Cocken said. "It's in the student handbook. Weapons shouldn't be on campus."

According to a LeMoyne-Owen College spokeswoman, Cortney House has since been expelled.

Police say he's charged with carrying a weapon on school property, resisting official detention, and evading arrest.
