MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A pregnant woman is recovering after a driver crashed his Ford Expedition through the wall of her apartment while she was sleeping on Wednesday night.

Many University of Memphis students were shocked when they saw the boarded up duplex at the corner of Midland Avenue and Highland Street.

Police say 29-year-old Patrick Coode was drunk when they found him stumbling out of his SUV once the vehicle stopped halfway into the bedroom of the home.

"People driving drunk does not surprise me," said University of Memphis student Jeffrey Beasley.

According to police, officers could smell alcohol on Coode's breath, and he admitted to having three beers before driving.

"Be a little more careful and a little more responsible," said neighbor Floyd Fox.

The residents of the home were very shaken after the incident. One of the women who was inside the duplex is two months pregnant, but is expected to be OK.

"I'm just praying for the family, that they will be alright," Fox added.

Coode told officers that this is not the first time he was intoxicated behind the wheel.

Police arrested Coode and charged him with DUI, reckless driving, public intoxication, and not having insurance. His bond is set at $5,000.
