Memphis police officers and Shelby County sheriff's deputies are investigating a shooting that happened Thursday afternoon.

According to police, officers found a shooting victim between the 3400 and 3500 block of Emerald Street.

Police officers on the scene said an argument between two groups of people started at the Marathon Gas Station in the 3300 block of Winchester Road. From there, one of the people in the cars chased an orange Jeep and opened fire on the vehicle.

One person was shot in the cheek. The suspect sped away from the scene. Later, a Shelby County Sheriff's Office deputy pulled the Jeep over on Emerald Street.

One witness said the Jeep sped by at almost 70 miles per hour.

"All I saw was the car flying down the street right here and once it made it, it cut across the grass," recalled witness Homer Jones. "Once it made it right there it kind a hit the curb and tilted to the side on two wheels. That's when it stopped."

Police say the victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The suspect is still at large.
