SHELBY COUNTY, TN (WMC) -

One former school teacher was indicted on charges that he took a relationship with one of his students too far.

"It's absolutely disgusting," said one neighbor, named Nancy.

Investigators say that 42-year-old James Sciarpelletti sent a picture of his private parts to a young female student who was reportedly in his 8th grade social studies class at Shadowlawn Middle School in Arlington.

Those investigating the case say Sciarpelletti and his student had been communicating for several years before the Bartlett police were notified in March 2014.

Neighbors who live near Sciarpelletti say he kept to himself and they are shocked to hear about the indictment.

Nancy says it may be a good thing that Sciarpelletti hasn't been working recently, if allegations are true.

"Somebody takes advantage of such a young person or anyone at all, but such a young person," Nancy added.

Sciarpelletti was arrested Thursday. He was released on $25,000 bond.
