COLLIERVILLE, TN (WMC) - Grizzlies stars Marc Gasol and Jeff Green proudly wear a purple band on their wrists. The Grizz mascot wears one as well.
These bands aren't just a fashion statement, they represent 9-year-old Carson Head and the massive outpouring of support for her as she battles cancer.
"I love the Grizzlies," Carson commented.
The Grizzlies love her right back. A Caring Bridge website called Carson's Corner is now live to keep everyone in the loop about Carson's progress as she battles a bone disease.
"Carson was diagnosed with autosarcoma back on March 7, 2014," explained Carson's mother, Paula Head. "Now she is a patient at St. Jude."
Recently, Make-A-Wish treated Carson to a trip, shopping spree, and the honor of being the special guest at an American Girl fashion show.
Many others in the community have reached out to support Carson and her family. She's received piles of teddy bears, paintings, and over 800 get well cards from caring strangers.
Carson's parents added that people also bring food, gift cards, and other items to the family to help them stay afloat as they go back and forth to St. Jude for Carson's treatment.
"Whoever thought that we'd have all these people loving on us all the time is pretty special," said Paula Head.
Even Grizz the mascot stopped by the Head household to wish Carson well.
Carson says the two things she treasures are her basket ball signed by Jeff Green and other teammates, and a recent visit from Marc Gasol.
"Now, he's given Carson his cell phone number and he says call me or text me anytime you want to talk," said Paula Head.
Carson and her parents say they'll be watching and praying for the Grizzlies every time they take the court. Carson even added a message of support for the team she loves so much.
