HICKORY, NC (WBTV) -

A man wanted in connection to the shooting death of a 23-year-old in Hickory on Saturday turned himself in Tuesday, according to officials.

Hickory police had an arrest warrant for 24-year-old Jamar Franklin Robinson for first-degree-murder in the shooting death of Octavis Sentex Geter. Robinson turned himself in Tuesday evening.

According to police, the shooting happened around 2:03 a.m. Saturday in the 800 block of 2nd Street SE.

Officers found Geter, also known as Rondo, lying in the roadway with a gunshot wound. Geter was transported to the hospital where he later died.

When officers arrived, they found a large group of people in the road.

Rahshawn Williams, Geter's cousin, says the shooting happened in front of a house party the they weren't even attending. He said they heard a fight break out and ran next door to see what was going on.

"Next thing I know, some guy comes out of nowhere and say 'that's him' and all you hear is gunshots," Williams said.

Williams was convinced the shooter thought Geter was someone else.

"He's just an innocent bystander. He wasn't doing nothing. Wasn't bothering nobody," Williams said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Hickory police at 328-5551. Police warn not to approach Robinson if seen.

More than half of the 17 people killed when a tourist boat sank on a Branson lake were members of the same Indiana family, and they likely wouldn't have been on the ill-fated trip but for a ticket mix-up.
