MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Police are investigating a shooting in a Hickory Hill neighborhood that killed one man and sent another to the hospital.

Police say three men were leaving their home when two men walked up and opened fire. Two of the men were shot, one of whom died just yards from where the shooting took place.

Police identify 34-year-old William Paris Hughes as the person who died.

For neighbors like Debbie Redmond, the sight of police in the neighborhood is not normal.

"Very quiet, no police come over here," Redmond said. “Kids be in this area riding their bikes. It could have been an innocent child that got shot.”

Since the shooting happening in broad daylight, she says she no longer feels safe.

"I walk my dog at night. I feel safe,” she said. “But now I don't know."

The other victim, 31-year-old Brandon Brooks, was taken to the hospital in critical condition. His condition was later upgraded to stable condition.

Police say the shooting could be drug-related. No arrests have been made.
