Family shot at while in pickup truck in Panola County
PANOLA CO, MS (WMC) -
Panola County Sheriff's Office is looking for two men wanted for shooting into a pickup truck, leaving a family, including a 2-year-old, covered in blood from broken glass.
Panola County sheriff's deputies know who they are looking for and are working with their counterparts in Lafayette County to track them down.
A photo from Facebook, published in the Clarion-Ledger newspaper, shows 2-year-old Hunter Morris with injuries he received from broken glass when a bullet traveled through a headrest and ended up in one of the truck's rear-view mirrors.
Josh and Christon Morris, the boy's parents, have been hiding since the incident occurred on Sunday evening.
“I think it's sad, it's really sad. The sad thing is, I mean, they can't even go home because they're scared of what might happen,” said neighbor Johnnie Kelly.
Neighbors say one of the two men wanted for the shooting has since shown up nearby at the Cove Point Grocery and is a known meth user.
“He denies doing it of course, ‘Why would I do something like that,' but every time you see him he's in a different car, so he's hiding out," said neighbor Robert Kersh.
Panola County Sheriff Dennis Darby says the shooting is still under investigation. They are not releasing photos or names of the wanted men because the deputies know who they are, and the way news travels in that area, so does everyone else.
