MPD investigates 2 shootings that occurred early Thursday morning

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Memphis police officers had a busy night responding to several unrelated shootings around Memphis.

The first shooting happened in the 800 block of Pope street.

The victim said he opened his front door after he heard someone knocking.

The victim said the suspect yelled, "Lay it down!" before firing an unknown number of rounds at him. He said he slammed the front door and ran into a bedroom. He was taken to Regional Medical Center in non-critical condition. 

The second shooting happened in the 4700 block of Given Avenue near Stratford Road.

Officers found the victim lying on a sofa with a gunshot wound.

The victim, who is an employee at the Las Vegas Club located in the 700 N. White Station, said that he got into an argument with a Hispanic man inside of the club. 

The victim said he was leaving work when he saw a man running toward his car, firing shots from a handgun. The victim was able to drive to the house on Given Avenue for help. 

The victim was taken to Regional Medical Center in non-critical condition.

A witness said he saw the shooter drive away in a red Volkswagen Jetta. 

Several shell casings were found near the nightclub.
