MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A former Memphis police officer has been indicted on charges of sex solicitation after he gave a 14-year-old girl a ride in his patrol car.

Derrick Abdul-Wakil, 43, was in uniform and in his patrol car on February 5.

That morning he saw a 14-year-old girl walking to school near Walker Avenue and Neptune Street.

Investigators say the officer pulled over and offered the girl a ride to school.

When she got into the patrol car, she sat in the front seat. She said the officer had his jacket covering his lap as his hand moved up and down underneath it.

She said the officer also touched her face and pulled her hood off her head.

Surveillance video in the area shows the girl getting into the car with officer Abdul-Wakil.

Abdul-Wakil resigned from the force in March.
