SHELBY COUNTY, TN (WMC) -

A Mid-South attorney who is in Fayette County Jail was indicted in Shelby County for a previous attempt on his wife's life.

The shingle that used to hang outside Fred Auston Wortman III's Collierville law office has been replaced with one featuring his partner's name.

Collierville police said Wortman poisoned and tried to kill his wife in January 2015.

Wortman's wife got sick after using toothpaste infused with a plant-based poison called Aconitum.

Thursday, a grand jury indicted him for attempted first-degree murder in that case.

On June 5, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agents arrested Wortman saying he tried to hire an undercover TBI agent to kill his wife.

Wortman is in jail on a $15 million bond related only to the June 5 arrest.
