A mother was charged with child neglect after deputies found her 22-month-old home alone and in poor condition.

St. Francis County deputies were called the to home on Tuesday night.

The front door was locked, but the back door was wide open.

Once inside, they found a baby lying in the floor malnourished and near death.

"It makes you furious," Sgt. Jason Bradshaw with the St. Francis County Sheriff's Department said.

Bradshaw was one of the deputies who found 22-month-old Alex lying alone on a floor littered with dirt and animal feces.

The child's mother, Rhonda Webb, 22, was at work at the time.

"The child looked very malnourished," Bradshaw said. "Legs and arms real skinny, boney, so to speak."

First responders took the child to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital to receive treatment for dehydration and other conditions.

Webb came home while deputies were still processing the scene. She said she left her son with a woman named Destiny, but neighbors said there's nobody that goes by that name.

"That's not her real name," Dominic Dillard said. "She had a shirt on that said 'Destiny.' Basically she [Webb] had already plotted it out and had her answer and her excuse."

Webb is now charged with felony first-degree endangerment of a minor. She's behind bars on a $150,000 bond.

Webb has three other children. Deputies say two of them are in state custody, the other is staying with a grandmother.

The 22-month-old is staying at Le Bonheur Friday night and will be released into state custody when the time comes.
