RIPLEY, TN (WMC) -

A woman in Ripley, Tennessee was charged with leaving a baby in a hot car for about half an hour.

Ripley police say the child's great aunt, Angela Williams, left the nine-month-old in the car Friday as she went to shop inside Walmart.

The baby's family said it was all a mistake. and they are coming to the defense of Williams.

"The baby fell asleep," Cathy Davis, the baby's grandmother said. "So she[Williams] forgot the baby was in the backseat"

Davis said her sister does not always have the baby with her, and today she forgot the baby was in the car when she went inside Walmart to cash her check.

Police said the temperature in the car was 110 degrees shortly after the child was rescued in the Walmart parking lot.

"She [Williams] is still upset," Cathy Davis, the baby's grandmother said. "She thinks everybody hates her, and I said 'Angie the people who love you and know you knew what really happened; that it's just a horrible accident'"

The baby is doing fine, but the great aunt now faces aggravated child neglect charges.

Davis said now her family is working to deal with the incident while they keep Williams in their prayers.

"She loves that baby with all her heart, just like we all do," Davis said.

The baby has been released to the care of her mother and is said to be doing fine.
