Argentinian Fabian Gomez shot 13-under par to win the FedEx St. Jude Classic at TPC Southwind Sunday. This is Gomez's first victory on the PGA tour. The 36-year old had previous wins on several other tours including the Nationwide Tour and the PGA Tour LatinoAmerica.
A final round 4-under 66 was enough to separate himself from Englishman Greg Owen, who finished 4 strikes back at 9-under. As they made the turn at 9, the pair were tied at 11-under. Owen bogied the difficult hole, while Gomez finished an up and down for par. From that point on Gomez widened his lead throughout the back 9 on his way to the Seersucker jacket.
Gomez is the fifth international champion of the FESJC. He won $1.08 million in prize money.
Golf hall of famer Phil Mickleson made a final round charge, shooting a 5-under 65, and finished tied for 3rd with a score of 8-under par.
