MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Memphis Police Department officers chased several suspects on foot after they reportedly shot up a vehicle.

WMC Action News 5 crew members on the scene found a vehicle shot near Kroger at Range Line Road and Frayser Boulevard.

Police at a nearby tire store heard the shots and quickly began a foot chase through the neighborhood behind the shopping center.

The owner of one car, Berniece Martin, says she had just walked into a nearby store.

"Ordinary citizen going about my ordinary day. Just picked up my grandchildren, went to the beauty supply to get a product for my granddaughter," Martin explained. "When I walked out of the store, I'm like, in awe because my car...I'm looking in my back seat and my car got shot up. I'm lucky no one got shot."

Martin went on to explain that her granddaughter was in the backseat of the car minutes before the shooting.  She says she has no idea why someone would shoot at her car.

"It's just crazy. It's crazy because somebody could have gotten killed," she said. "I can replace those windows. I can't replace my grand baby."

Police found a gun that appears to have been tossed during the chase.

Neighbor Willie Henderson said he saw police detain what looked like two teenage boys at the end of the street.

Police say they have two suspects under 18 in custody. They have been charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, vandalism and evading arrest.

The case is under investigation, so it is unclear what the shooting was about. Luckily, no one was injured.
