MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Police have two women in custody and are investigating a carjacking at an apartment complex in Whitehaven.

Officers found the car in the 1100 block of Gordon Street, 12 miles away, more than 12 hours after the carjacking.

Police say around 2 a.m. Tuesday morning, they were called to an apartment complex in Whitehaven after a man reported a woman had pulled a handgun on him and demanded his keys.

The woman attempted to leave the complex, but got confused when trying to exit. The victim says he tried to prevent her from leaving, but he was hit in the leg.

Around 1 p.m., police located his car near Jackson and National. They followed the car until it turned onto Gordon Cove.

“We was sitting on our porch today and all we seen was a car coming down our street real fast, slammed on the breaks, hopped out and then the young lady that was in the vehicle, she ran in our backyard,” said witness Qua Carter.

Neighbors watched as police arrested two women who were both in the car. The car had a flat tire and was involved in a crash on the front driver side.

“She almost got away until she jumped the gate. I still don't see how she got away with that flat tire there,” said witness Johnny Miller. “If it wasn't for this cove she would have gotten away.”

Police have not released the name of the two women taken into custody. The victim told police that one of the women looked familiar to him, but he did not know her name.
