Crime scene tape surrounds the apartment building where two men are accused of robbing a Memphis family.

Wednesday morning, a mother, her two kids, and her grandchild were all in their apartment in the 5100 block of Wayfarer Circle when they say a man knocked on the door, shouting, "Maintenance."

Instead of a maintenance crew, two armed robbers with bandanas covering their faces burst through the door.

"They took her to my brother's room and they started pistol whipping him with a gun and hitting him with a gun," said the teenage daughter, who wanted to remain anonymous. "They was like, 'Where's the money? Where's the money?'"

Police say the two men demanded money and "dope" from the brother of the family.

"They were finna (sic) pull the trigger and they were in the closet and they were like, 'Give me the money or we going to shoot you,'" the teen recalled. "So, he gave them the money."

However, the violence didn't stop there.

Police say the brother grabbed his gun and ran out after the robbers. It's unclear whether he fired any shots.

"He was on his knees and they ran out of the house," the teen explained. "He ran after them and they shot gun shots at him."  A vehicle on the scene had several bullet holes in it.

The family says they have been robbed before. Though the apartment complex has quite a few security cameras, neighbors say people continue to commit crimes in the area.

"It's very hard to get any sleep at night time," said the teen. "You can't get any sleep because you don't know who's going to come to your house."
