Briana Brooks, a 19-year-old college student, was an intern for Shelby County divorce referee, Carrie Woods, in May. Now, police say she hacked into Woods' bank account and stole money from him.

Investigators say Brooks admitted that she used Woods' computer while she was interning for him last month. She is accused of using the computer to wire herself money through Western Union from Woods' personal bank account three times, taking almost $1,000.

Woods told police he never gave Brooks permission to use his bank account information.

“I can't really say that I'm shocked,” Memphis resident Kevin McCoy said. “I think it's an incredibly stupid thing for her to do, and, as I said, she's completely ruined her chances of a job again.”

Officers say Brooks showed up at the MPD Economic Crimes Office and admitted to the crime.

She has been charged with theft of property and identity theft. She is being held on a $12,000 bond.
