It has been a hot, but great, week in Memphis. Here are five reasons to be excited this week: 

Church hires first black woman pastor

Members of Lindenwood Christian Church elected a new pastor.

When Virzola Law takes over duties as the church's senior pastor, she will be the first black woman to ever lead the church.

Lindenwood was established in 1843.

U.S. government gives $3M to St. Jude

Congressman Steve Cohen announced four grants that will give $3M to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Girls Inc. provides unique summer jobs

Girls with Girls Inc. are farming in an unlikely place: Frayser.

"It's something that I never thought I'd do," Mattie Reese said. "I mean, I don't like bugs."

The summer jobs are giving young girls a chance to branch out and learn new skills.

Job fair aims to give convicts a second chance

A job fair held this week was designed specifically to help ex-convicts find employment.

Instead of forcing them into a life of more crime, the program aims to teach them how to make money legitimately.

Janet Jackson tour includes Memphis

Six-time Grammy Award winner, Janet Jackson, announced a tour stop in Memphis.

The pop star's Unbreakable World Tour will stop at FedExForum on September 29.

Tickets go on sale June 22.
