With summer in full swing for Memphis kids, local youth groups are finding new ways to keep children entertained.
The LINOL Foundation and Autobahn Indoor Speedway teamed up to give local kids a chance to hit the race track.
"You can't beat it. Kids, speed, go-karts, it's awesome. They just love it,” speedway general manager Anthony Dillard said.
For the girls from Girls Inc., it gave them a chance to try something that they might not have done before.
"Young girls they don't usually do things like this. They think that stuff like this is for boys. We introduce them to a lot of things that let them know that young ladies can do things that they think that they can't do,” Girls Inc. leader DeAndrea Warren said.
The race track is not just for the older kids. The younger kids participating in the summer enrichment camp, Camp Rock, had a chance to put their foot to the pedal.
"Mostly I did a lot of drifting, so that would be the best part,” Camp Rock student Quinton Richard-Scott said.
The camps come in before the speedway opens to the general public, which gives the kids a chance to have one on one attention with the crew.
"I would say kids that didn't believe they could drive--watch them get out there and see their faces when they get out. They feel like they've accomplished something," Dillard said. "Especially when they thought they couldn't, and then they get out and they know they can.”
