MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A teen died while riding his scooter near the corner of University Street and Hubert Street.

Neighbors said they saw 14-year-old Eric King lying in the street when they came home from church.

First responders took him to Regional One Health, but doctors were unable to save him.

Memphis Police Department originally thought King's death was the result of a hit-and-run, but later investigators said a car did not hit King's scooter.

"Usually, his father comes to get him on Father's Day, but for some reason today he was able to go kick it with his friends instead of his father," said uncle Mario King.

Neighbors said King's friend was riding with him on another scooter.

"I walked and I seen a little child in the street. He was bleeding from his head and the side of his face, and his arm was broken," neighbor Sharon Williams said. "His friend had him in his arms saying 'Help! Help!' So I ran into the house, and then I dialed 911."

Police said they are still trying to sort this out. Stay with WMCActionNews5.com for the latest details.
