MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A Craigslist sale almost ended in a much more tragic situation when a woman tried to sell her dogs Monday afternoon.

"He looked like he was real interested," said the victim, Aleta. "He said he wanted the dogs, and I was like, 'Cool.'"

Aleta and her granddaughter met two men at Germanshire Park after they responded to her Craigslist ad for her two puppies.

When she asked for money for the dogs, the men pulled out a gun.

"One guy said, 'If she moves, screams, whatever, shoot her.' And I was like, 'This isn't going down like this,'" Aleta recalled. "And then they threatened my granddaughter, and the fight was on."

The men took Aleta's purse and both of her dogs and put them in their car. Aleta jumped into the car to try to get them back before they drove off, but instead, the men took off with her inside the car. Aleta left her granddaughter in her van.

"We were crossing the road there, and he was trying to fire the weapon," Aleta added. "The weapon wouldn't fire. He couldn't pull the trigger, so I turned the gun towards his chest and we crashed."

The two suspects ran away. Neighbor Tim Stewart ran to help Aleta after the crash.

"When I first got outside and I saw he,r I thought she crashed her car," Stewart said. "Started questioning her and she told me they tried to take her puppies. I'm a sucker for puppies so I took them in and took care of them."

Aleta went back for her granddaughter. She's glad no one was hurt.

Still, the grandmother says she'll be more cautious on Craigslist.

"It's safer to meet at a police station," she explained.

Police identified Carlos Parker as one of the men involved in the robbery. He's behind bars and scheduled for court Wednesday.

Police said they know who the second suspect is, but have not yet arrested him.
