ATLANTA, GA (WMC) -

Rapper and business mogul Rick Ross was charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault and battery after he was arrested in his mansion outside Atlanta Wednesday morning.

Ross shot to the top of the charts with his song about one of Memphis' most famous streets.

“I'm riding down Elvis Presley Boulevard,” the song proclaims.

The mayor even gave him a key to the city after he opened several Wing Stop restaurants around town.

Ross also performed at the Tigers Basketball Memphis Madness pep rally.

Now, Ross, whose real name is William Roberts II, is in a Fayette County Georgia jail with no bond.

Investigators said he forced a man into his mansion and held him there for hours. Ross allegedly beat the man with a Glock.

The man cannot use his jaw or chew and has a neck injury, scratches and bruises.

It is unclear what led to the altercation.

Ross' takedown was unusual. Investigators said someone inside the home refused to open the gate, so they opened it for them, but did not have to break down the front door.

Ross faces two kidnapping, two aggravated assault charges and one battery charge. His bodyguard was charged with kidnapping and aggravated assault.

Mayor A C Wharton said of Ross:

The key was presented to Mr. Ross as a token of appreciation at the grand opening of one of his three businesses in the Memphis area. I was joined at the ribbon cutting by the Memphis Chamber, as is customary, to highlight a business owners investment in Memphis and the new jobs created. The things Mr. Ross' is accused of are deplorable. He will be judged by the criminal justice system and eventually, he, like each of us, will be judged by a higher power.

Ross was arrested last month in his Bentley, also in Fayette County, Georgia, on a possession of marijuana charge.

Investigators in that case said he violated tinting regulations and when they stopped him, they smelled marijuana and found some in his car.

Ross' Maybach Music Group has not responded to the incident.
