Police blocked traffic on Clementine Road and Highway 51 as Memphis Fire Department crews battled a two alarm fire in the Warren Apartments.

The fire started just after 2 p.m., but firefighters were still trying to control the blaze at 5 p.m.

With a heat index over 100 degrees, firefighters took breaks. Paramedics stayed on hand in case anyone overheated.

Crews said at least one woman suffered minor injuries from the fire, but she was OK.

Fire officials said it appears that the fire started in a second floor apartment, but the exact cause is unknown.

Residents in the complex were in disbelief. Tenant Chris Wright came home to the fire and rushed into the building to rescue his dog before it was too late.

"You can't just say where do you go from here, because you've got to talk about buying clothes, finding somewhere to stay," Wright said. "All of that."

Apartment management said they will work with the Red Cross to help displaced residents.
