MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A Memphis-based group is one of several teams fighting two Tennessee abortion laws.

Both laws passed the General Assembly in April and are set to go into practice July 1, but now the pro-choice groups are taking legal action.

The lawsuit asks a judge to block the laws which would require a 48-hour waiting period before a patient gets an abortion.

The groups behind the lawsuit said the upcoming laws restrict women's access to safe and legal abortions.

Tennessee Right to Life, a group based in Nashville, disagrees, and its president released a statement overnight saying the group expects the court to uphold the laws.
