Man accused of killing his wife pleads guilty to first-degree murder

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Travis Capshaw, 36, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder Friday. He was sentenced to life without parole.

Capshaw admitted that he to killing his wife, Ranita Burke, 32, at her job in August of 2012. He and Burke were separated at the time of her death and had one daughter together.

Witnesses said they saw Capshaw dressed in all-black clothing walk quickly up to his wife's car as she was going on her lunch break.

Capshaw reportedly stabbed her repeatedly and then cut her throat as he left the car.

Tennessee Highway Patrol officers attempted to stop Capshaw's Chevrolet Tahoe near Jackson, Tennessee. Capshaw was chased for about 5 to 10 minutes before crashing his SUV.

Officers found a blood-stained shirt and pocket knife in the SUV. Capshaw was taken into custody.
