MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

For many Mid-Southerners, Friday was a day of celebration.

Jennifer Ballheimer and Alisha Wall said their 'I-Do's' outside the Memphis Gay and Lesbian Community Center during a party at the facility.

"It's been a lot of weddings this season, and now we feel like we finally got our time," said Alisha Wall.

Smiles and hugs spanned the nation as people expressed their joy Friday.

However, not everyone was equally as excited.

Dwight Montgomery, Memphis pastor and local SCLC chapter president, said Friday's news is disappointing.

"America will have to answer for the decisions they make that are against scripture," said Montgomery.

Montgomery explained that the ruling goes against his biblical beliefs.

"Marriage should be between a man and a woman," Montgomery added.

For many gay couples, there is still a long way to go, but a bright future ahead.

Rachel West said, "I've always said I'm not getting married until it's legal, so now it's legal."
