MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -
ESPN's Marc Stein reported earlier Monday the Memphis Grizzlies discussed a trade for Brooklyn Nets small forward Joe Johnson. According to Stein, the Grizzlies had "exploratory" interest in the former All-Star.
Memphis GM Chris Wallace drafted Johnson in 2001, but later traded him to the Phoenix Suns in 2002. Johnson turned into a star player for Phoenix, Atlanta and later Brooklyn, where he made seven All-Star teams between 2007-12, and 2014.
According to Stein, the teams could not find a workable deal, partially due to Johnson's $24.9 million dollar salary, which ranks second in the NBA (behind Kobe Bryant's $25 million).
Johnson starred at Arkansas for two seasons.
