MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Memphis police said a Craigslist crook is using the online classifieds to lure victims. So far, they are investigating at least three crimes connected to the same man.

"I think it's scary," said Sandra Williams of Memphis. "To think there's someone out there doing that on Craigslist, and people should be aware of that."

Officers said the man has struck three times since June 20. He pretended be interested in laptops and a cell phone advertised on Craigslist. Two of the victims were robbed at gunpoint in the Trails at Mt. Moriah apartment complex when they agreed to meet who they thought was a potential buyer.

A third victim was lured to another complex in the same area, but he was able to grab the suspect's gun during a struggle before he got away.

"You know, people have all kinds of scams and different things that aren't legitimate," said Yvette Salter of Memphis. "Just have to be careful."

Last year, a Bartlett man was killed after, according to police, three suspects met him about a car he advertised on Craigslist.  The same thing happened to a Georgia couple. They were murdered following a Craigslist meet up.

There have been dozens of murders and countless other crimes tied to the website nationwide, according to law enforcement data.

"Just have to be a little vigilant," said Salter.
