Police say Bass Pro gun theft related to another break-in

Guns and ammunition are now in the hands of criminals.

Memphis police officers are searching for two men who stole multiple handguns, a high-powered rifle, and bullets from two cars in the Bass Pro Shops Pyramid parking lot.

Two men in a 2000 BMW X5 broke into two cars and stole the following items:

  • A 9mm pistol
  • A Glock 21 pistol
  • An AR-15 rifle
  • A Glock 22 pistol
  • A CZ pistol
  • Large quantities of ammunition for the weapons
  • A KA knife
  • A Dell laptop
  • An Apple iPhone 5

A surveillance video looking at South Front Street shows two men opening the driver’s side door and taking the items from the vehicles, all within a matter of one minute on Monday.

The video was captured about an hour before a similar break-in occurred at Bass Pro.

“Be safe,” said Marge Kasperbauer. “Don't become a victim. Put anything out of view. If you have everything hidden away then you're pretty well safe.”

Police believe the two break-ins are related and remind drivers to stow away all valuables.

“I'm not surprised,” said Jennifer Ison, who is visiting Memphis. “I can see people going by cars and seeing if there are any valuables. That's why you should leave any valuables-- especially guns-- in your car where they're visible.”

Both victims were visiting from out of town when the thefts occurred, according to police reports.

Anyone with information about these stolen items is asked to contact Crime Stoppers by calling 901-528-CASH (2274), texting 'AWARD' to 274637 or visiting www.528cash.org.
