MPD investigating five separate shootings in six hours

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Five shootings happened in and around Memphis in about six hours, spanning from Wednesday night to Thursday morning.

Union Avenue and Cleveland Street

The most recent happened around 3 a.m. near the intersection of Union Avenue and Cleveland Street.

Police said one man was shot while sitting in an SUV at a red light.

A gray Chevrolet Malibu pulled up beside the SUV and opened fire. A passenger inside the SUV was shot. The driver took the passenger to Regional Medical Center in non-critical condition.

Foote Homes Neighborhood

Around 1 a.m. Thursday, police said at least four people in a black sedan shot a 25-year-old man.

The victim is in the hospital in stable condition. Police said he was the victim of a drive-by shooting in the Foote Homes neighborhood. Police found bullet holes in two apartment units and another vehicle on the scene. No one else was hurt.

Lamar Avenue and South Parkway East

Less than an hour before the Foote Homes drive-by, Memphis police responded to a shooting at Lamar Avenue and South Parkway East.

Officers found a car sitting empty in the middle of the intersection.

A woman then arrived at Regional One in critical condition with gunshot injuries.

The woman's boyfriend said they went to Pendleton Park Apartments to fight a guy. During the fight, the guy--who police said is a known gang member--pulled out an assault rifle and opened fire.

The boyfriend drove off. He said his tire went flat and he had to stop in the intersection of Lamar Avenue and South Parkway East.

Eden Pointe Apartments

Around 11 p.m. Wednesday, one person arrived at Regional Medical Center in critical condition after a shooting at Eden Pointe Apartments located in the 3200 block of West Danville Circle.

The victim said that he and a friend were approached by two suspects. The first suspect robbed the victim and then shot him. The two suspects then ran away.

Wells Station and Gray Road

Two hours earlier, officers arrived at the intersection of Wells Station and Gray Road where a person was shot in the leg. The victim is in non-critical condition.

The victim said he was riding with a friend when the suspect opened fire. The driver of the car said he stopped to talk to the suspect at the BP station when he started shooting at the victim for unknown reasons.
