MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A man accused of sexually assaulting an 81-year-old woman appeared in court Thursday via a dark video screen.

Palace Bells had little to say, but his police record told a much more detailed, and sordid, story.

According to Memphis police records, Bells faced a number of charges in the past 18 months. Those charges include bodily harm, domestic violence, vandalism, and violation of probation.

Additionally, police affidavits reveal that Bells allegedly attacked and harassed his own mother multiple times.

In February 2014, police arrested him for hitting his mother in the face and cursing at her because she didn't know where his belt was.

One month later, Bells was accused of casing homes. According to the report, when officers approached him, he ran. He then resisted officers, who hit him twice in the face.

In May 2015, Bells was arrested for allegedly attacking a store clerk who he said refused to serve him.

Wednesday, police arrested Bells and charged him with raping and attacking an 81-year-old woman with a walker.

"I got a grandma," Memphian Roosevelt Barnes said. "I got elderly women that I know, period. They ain't even got to be somebody's grandma. It's just too much going on right now."

Palace Bells will remain in jail on a $500,000 bond. His next court date is set for July 14.
