Lance Lynn struck out eight and gave up three hits in seven innings. He also gave up one unearned run. Lynn has won his last six starts.
Kevin Seigrist came in and recorded his fourth save.
The Padres only run came thanks to a Matt Kemp single in the third,
Cardinals went on to win 3-1 and hold a league best 33-11 record at home.
Tim Cooney, another former Redbird, was called back up to St. Louis and will start Tuesday when the Cardinals face the Chicago Cubs.
