Mississippi Highway Patrol officers are frantically looking for a missing K-9 officer.

Smoke's handler said the dog disappeared early Sunday morning in the old Union Hill Community in Lee County, Mississippi.

"I let him out of the kennel to break and play while I filled his water bowls up," explained Highway Patrol Corporal Andrew Sisk. "When I looked up, he was out of sight."

Sisk said he last saw the long-haired black lab off of County Road 530. Smoke was wearing an orange collar.

"It's not normal for him," Sisk added. Sisk has been Smoke's handler since February and said Smoke has never run off before.

Sisk added that he shared a special bond with the K-9 officer.

Smoke underwent extensive training from the time he was a puppy to learn to detect explosives. However, Sisk said that Smoke likes to unwind after work with a game of fetch in the yard.

If you have seen Smoke or know anything that might help MHP find the dog, please call 662-534-8650.
