MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Distracted driving may be to blame for putting a pedestrian in the hospital.

Memphis police charged Susan Macchiarella with reckless driving after determining that she hit a pedestrian while he pushed his broken down car on North Parkway.

The crash happened Monday near the intersection of N. Parkway and Center Drive.

Police said Macchiarella looked up and saw a car in her way. She swerved to avoid crashing, but instead ended up rear-ending Deandre Hill, who was pushing his car out of the road.

Hill was taken to Regional One in critical condition.

Police have not charged Macchiarella with distracted driving, but in the police report they mention that it may be to blame for the crash.

Macchiarella is expected in court Wednesday on her reckless driving charge.

Memphis police said they are still investigating the crash.
