MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Police are still searching for a man they say tried to kidnap a Kroger employee.

The incident happened just before 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Kroger on Germantown Parkway near Dexter Road, according to police.

"She could have lost her life and thank God that she didn't," said Kroger customer Latoya Bowers.

The victim said she was getting shopping carts from the parking lot when a man pulled up next to her, rolled his window down and started kissing her hand.

The victim tried to walk back to the store, but the man grabbed her and pulled her toward his car. She was eventually able to break free and run inside the Kroger to get security.

"It just hurts my heart that this is happening and we have to get a grip on this," said Kroger customer Judy McGuire.

Police said it doesn't appear the victim and suspect knew each other.

Some customers added that the incident is scary because it happened at a usually busy shopping center off of Germantown Parkway.

"It's kind of scary to be targeted, and it does kind of piss you off and it makes you think that, yeah, I should think more along the line of self defense," said customer Shatara Moore.

Customers and nearby store owners said they're taking more precautions.

Police do not have a detailed description of the suspect. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact CrimeStoppers by calling 901-528-CASH (2274), texting 'AWARD' to 274637 or visiting www.528cash.org.
