Memphis Tigers junior forward, Austin Nichols, announced Tuesday that he intends to transfer.
Nichols, who led the Tigers in scoring with 13.3 points last season, said on ESPN Radio 92.9 that it was best for him and his family for him to move on from Memphis.
Memphis refused his request to transfer because of the timing of the request. U of M athletic director Tom Bowen said though he has not spoken to Nichols yet, he is open to speak with him about his decision to leave.
Coach Josh Pastner and the rest of the coaching staff are said to have been caught off guard by his intent to transfer.
