MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Residents in the Central Gardens neighborhood are on guard after crooks stalked their victim from an alley.

"I am more convinced now than ever that I should carry a firearm to protect myself," said resident Kitty Cox.

Two men robbed a neighbor at gunpoint as he walked past an alley off Melrose Street.

"Crump Station's statistics for our neighborhood, our ward, are actually pretty good," said Neighborhood Watch Leader Tracy Wiswall. "But you know, one of these kind of things shakes people up pretty good."

Police released a surveillance photo of the getaway car-- a dark-colored, 80's model Cadillac.

One neighbor said she found cigarette butts in the alley and wondered if the crooks stood, watched, and waited for someone to walk past.

"If you go walking at nighttime, alone, you're much more likely to possibly be a victim," Wiswall added.

Neighborhood Watch leaders reminded residents not to carry their wallets or purses while on neighborhood strolls and not to walk with their cell phones in plain sight.

Cox said she's still planning to pack some heat.

"This makes me feel like it should be standard, just like my, my shirt," Cox added. "I've gotten to that point."

Anyone with information about the robbery is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers by calling 901-528-CASH (2274), texting 'AWARD' to 274637 or visiting www.528cash.org.
