MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A car crashed into Carnes Elementary school Sunday night.

Memphis police said Albert Smith was driving a tan Buick the wrong way on North Manassas Street. When an officer tried to pull him over, Smith flipped the officer his middle finger and sped off over a curb and through a stop sign.

Shortly thereafter, the officer heard a crash.

When he went to see what happened, he noticed the same tan Buick crashed into Carnes Elementary at the corner of Ayers Street and J W Williams Lane. The driver of the car was nowhere to be seen.

When backup arrived, officers started searching around the school. They quickly found Smith hiding in the bushes.

Smith told officers his leg was too injured for him to walk on it. Paramedics took Smith to the hospital.

He's now charged with several traffic violations.
