Memphis Shelby County Sports Authority finances questioned

There are questions about finances at the Memphis Shelby County Sports Authority. The agency was on Tuesday's city council agenda to talk about its financial report. However, no one showed up. City Council members want to know if the agency has been conducting regular audits as required by law. Council members say they have not received a copy of an audit in recent years. E.C. Jones, Memphis City Council said, "That's what we'd like to find out. I think the taxpayer have a right like to know what they are doing down there at the Sports Authority, where the money is going. We need to take a look at it and see exactly where the money is being sent." Council Member E.C. Jones says the Sports Authority wants a million dollars for operating costs. Jones says council members want to know more about money the Sports Authority may have that was left over from the construction of FedExForum. He says that money should be used to retire bonds, not for Sports Authority expenses.
